London Fashion Week Breakout Star: J.W. Anderson

J.W. Anderson, the 28 year-old unexpected breakout star of London Fashion Week is in one word: unassuming. Looks like all stars recently aligned perfectly for the Northern Irish designer. Well, lets see: just in the past few months, Anderson has been asked to collaborate with Top Shop, the giant British retailer, won the Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear at the British Fashion Awards and to add the cherry on top was recently asked to present a one-off capsule collection for Versus, Versace’s little sister brand a la Christopher Kane! Not to mention since last season his clothes have been picked up by leading international retailers Saks Fifth Avenue, Dover Street Market, Opening Ceremony, Selfridges and Joyce. We think the buzz has a lot to do with his strange, sculpturally beautiful clothes. There is something to fresh to his approach to deconstruction. When asked about his design concept, Anderson said, his concept was to disturb the conventional lines of his clothes, and to find ways of elongating silhouettes and creating unpredictable angles. Well said, indeed.
